| GSAC Goals Recommended November 9, 2004 | | GSAC recommends the following goals related to EE 2D:
Goal 1: Continue the description and development of various program models/services K-12; identifying the major features of the program or service; the staff resources and delivery standards needed to ensure a consistent program; and assessment and evaluation routines to measure student achievement and program quality.
Goal 2: Define various recommended service plans at the elementary, junior and high school level, providing a description of essential components and delivery standards needed to evaluate the opportunity for gifted services at every school site. (This is consistent with Board policy regarding the need for an appropriate education for all students and the Principles of Learning that require an appropriate level of “academic rigor and clear expectations for all students.”)
Goal 3: Examine existing educational services to gifted students and recommend modifications or increased opportunities at the classroom, department/unit, school and district level to offer a seamless and continuous program of service K-12. Develop collaborative models that provide the most flexibility at the school level while providing for a consistent and seamless plan of service for the school career of identified students.
Goals 4: Examine existing advising services to gifted students and recommend processes and/or staffing resources needed to ensure a seamless and continuous program of service K-12. Examine how students might be prepared for success and supported in their efforts to gain acceptance to advanced level programs; recommend programs and effective practices to support students in their post-secondary education. Goal 5: Expand the notion of gifts as expressed within multiple cultures; examine ways that the cultural expression of gifts can be incorporated into the academic program (including areas such as artistic expression, leadership, cultural knowledge, and other valued expressions of gifts).
Goal 6: Continue to study existing identification data to locate effective practices and recommend improvements in SPPS identification procedures. Enhance the process for both formal and informal identification that expands the pool of identified students and supports students with potential gifts and demonstrated talents during their entire school career; explore ways to identify students based on test results, nominations, or demonstrated talents as evidenced by successful participation in advanced opportunities.
Goal 7: Develop a professional self-assessment process that defines the levels of knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to meet the needs of gifted students based on roles and responsibilities (classroom/resource teachers). Continue to develop and provide professional development opportunities regarding how to meet and serve gifted students in various educational settings. Locate ways to efficiently utilize staff resources to achieve efficiencies and coordinate staff efforts with other school programs and initiatives.
